Nothing beats a pair of crisp white socks — the classic aesthetic and feel make every momentous journey better! Unfortunately, their shine can fade quickly with time due to wear and tear; don’t despair, though, as there’s an easy solution available with Dunasocks that can restore them back to their former beauty and renew that shine!
Most of us own at least one pair of off-white (or grey!) socks in our socks drawer, initially giving off an impression of brightness but eventually losing its shine as dust accumulates over time. But with some household products like baking soda vinegar or lemon juice in hand, white socks needn’t necessarily fall prey to dirt; their shine can remain.
Before diving in and discussing how to wash gray off of socks, here are a few steps you can do to maintain them and extend their lifetime as white socks.
Please do not wear your footwear more than once daily, and clean them regularly to extend its use.
Your socks’ fabric must dictate which cleaning methods you select for their care and maintenance.
Avoid rubbing too hard, which could damage their shape and compromise their integrity.
Always separate white socks and clothing of various hues when washing them together.
Soaking socks in water before washing them is often the best way to remove stubborn dirt particles.
Of course, white socks become dirty over time. When this occurs, some household ingredients could prove helpful — from rough and tumble socks for children to those needing some TLC from women and men alike; these methods and tools could give your socks that much-needed refreshment!
Baking soda can be used as an effective remedy against stinky socks. While there are various approaches, one practical process involves washing socks in a warm basin filled with generous sprinkles of baking soda for several hours before placing them in the dryer, then rinsing in a machine detergent drawer with 150 to 200 milliliters of baking soda added as a usual liquid or powder detergent (and keep an extra pair handy just in case!). Finally, don’t forget your sunglasses because those socks could soon start shining like never before!
Boiling
One practical and trustworthy method of returning white socks to life is boiling them. Fill a large pot with water, add half 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and laundry detergent granules as well as your socks before heating to boiling point and leaving your socks for 15-20 minutes before giving a good squeeze out and placing them into your washing machine as usual — although wool socks need an initial soak in warm water before boiling!
Lazer soap spray
Applying some essential laundry soap on old white socks won’t go amiss; soak them in warm water mixed with lemon juice before slathering them with laundry soap and laundering them, as usual, the following day. After leaving them overnight in their plastic bag tied off securely, you can remove them the next day from their storage space to be washed using your usual routine, and they should come out looking as white as ever!
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice has become famous for its stain-removing abilities. This is due to the acid within lemons acting as an antibacterial agent and natural bleach; soak your greying socks for two or three hours in water infused with freshly squeezed lemons before placing them in your washing machine, as usual, to finish up! You could see immediate results after just this initial treatment!
White vinegar also contains acidity (acetic acid), which can help remove stubborn stains. Mix one cup of white vinegar in one liter of boiling water. Soak your socks overnight; in the morning, merely run through a regular spin cycle to clear away the remaining dirt… and vinegar smell!
